River of Life

Angus McDonell's "River of Life" is a promising debut. So promising that the title track served as the National Catholic Youth Conference theme song in late 2003. McDonnell's songsmithing is amongst Catholic Christian music's best. Remarkable is his adeptness and diversity of musical styles. He traverses nearly every idiom imaginable with flair. For most, this is quite a feat without earmarks of contrivance exposing themselves between each awkwardly scored bar. Fortunately, McDonnell smartly anchors each of these ventures within his keen pop sensibilities. This serves to keep him from seeming a fish out of water.
PJ's OK: If your need is sparkling refreshment, "River of Life" cascades its effervescent waters into a still pool of cool abundance. Come swim with Angus McDonell and the worthy fishes.
